Dining table composed of an elliptical surface supported by a polygonal foot constructed out of rods.
"polimasa is an object developed, since 2012, within and for our office that easily transcends its boundaries by becoming both the center of a dining or conference room. It explores the possibility of creating a structure composed of only diagonals - the empty space present in a classic, four legged, frame structure suporting most tables. The resulting polygonal node structure is paired with an elliptical table top, making the table subject of a triangles-meet-ellipse dialectic. The shape of the tabletop creates a new set of relatonships amongst the people sharing moments around the table."
polimasa consists, thus, of 2 main elements:
The ellipse shaped table top can be built out of a large array of materials such as various species of hardwood, stone, glass, steel and the entire range of solid surface materials. The table top is supported by a performant spatial polygonal node structure, weighing only 4.45kg, consisting of 20 cylindrical baguettes, only 20mm in diameter, with hemispherical heads and variable lengths, made out of various species of hardwood. The baguettes are connected by 9 three-dimensional steel sheet nodes, 4 of which, at the base, are provided with a height adjusting system. The spatial polygonal node structure gives the table lightness, elegance and flexibility.
